Abstract

The Aralia Stellar System is a large-scale, autonomous and sustainable data ecosystem architectural model designed to address the challenges of deploying the Aralia System across multiple social entities, such as conglomerates, corporations, international federations and higher education institutions.

The system is based on a federation of self-governing Data Planets operating around a central "Sun". This governance core ensures consistency of rules, policies, and controls, while retaining independent ownership of each data planet (i.e., data provider). By simulating a real-world community where individual members contribute resources, the Aralia Starfield System enables secure, controlled and collaborative data sharing across heterogeneous organizations.

In short, the Aralia Stellar Systemis a federated, AI-ready data ecosystem: Autonomous data planets are securely shared under the governance of a centralized sun, with real-time access by AI agents without additional preparation.

The Aralia Stellar System is a federated model of data planets organized around a central "sun" that provides enhanced governance to ensure data control and protection. It operates as an autonomous system with a separate physical presence (site, URL) and manages multiple planet members, often representing a specialized domain that encapsulates the associated data planets.

It is designed to support an AI-ready data ecosystem that enables secure and efficient data sharing among enterprises, international consortia, universities and government organizations.

Core Modules and Services

The Aralia Stellar System provides powerful front-end functionality and core services that seamlessly integrate AI-centric features with enterprise-class services, including advanced data exploration and geospatial capabilities, while preserving the federated and decentralized nature of the data planets. Core components and services include:

• Stellar Portal: The primary user interface.
• Planet Authority: Manages member planets and provides access to them.
• User Accounts and Groups (IDM): manages user creation and authentication.
• User Authentication: Responsible for login and Single Sign-On (SSO).
• Discovery Service: Supports cross-planet dataset searches.
• Geo Data Service: Provides spatial location and administrative boundary information to support mapping applications.
• Usage Tracking Service: Collects and aggregates usage data.
• OpenRAG SDK and API: Python-based development kit and ready-to-use AI Agents to support interaction with the data planet.

Core System Features

• Planet Authority: The Stellar System acts as an authorization unit for its member planets, issuing access credentials through the Sun component so that users can access data. This is an important part of Aralia's open data ecosystem.
• User Management: Centralized management of account creation and authentication for all member planets. Supports links to corporate IDMs or social accounts for authentication and single sign-on using standard protocols such as OAuth. Allows the creation and management of customized user groups and provides member planets with the ability to set data access rights.
• Usage Tracking: While detailed logging is done at the planet level, the Starfield system collects statistics and aggregates usage data from member planets and presents them centrally on the usage overview page.
• Exploration and Geographic Data Services: A built-in exploration service allows users to search for datasets on planets via keywords or LLM prompts. Member planets can publish data files and structural information to the service. Geolocation services are also available to support spatial positioning and administrative boundary applications.

User Interface

• Stellar Portal: The main interface and home page of the Stellar System. It allows users to search for relevant datasets across the system, and the home page can be customized to link to external resources such as RSS news feeds.
• AI Assistant: A powerful tool built into the Starfield portal to assist with navigation, dataset exploration, analysis and insight generation.
• Admin UI: A dedicated console for domain administrators to manage all aspects of the system, including planet members, user accounts and system settings.

AI-Ready Services

Aralia offers OpenRAG, a Python-based SDK and ready-to-use AI Agents that enable developers to build AI agents that can interact with planets. This is a key component in making Aralia an AI-ready service, providing AI Agents with full access and interaction capabilities with member planets.

Users need to obtain an Agent Access Key from the Stellar System to use AI Agents and API services. In conjunction with the Discovery Service, AI Agents can accurately retrieve specific data from the right planet and utilize Transplore™ capabilities through Aralia's infrastructure.
